Problems with localy connected WIBU-BOXes.

There may be various reasons why a WIBU-BOX is not detected. These reasons result from two main categories of problems: software problems, i.e. the WIBU-KEY driver is not installed properly and/or not configured properly or hardware problems, i.e. the WIBU-BOX cannot be detected by the driver.

The following activities need to be double-checked:

Are all required driver files installed correctly?
Is the WIBU-BOX attached to the proper port?
Does the computer recognize the ports and their I/O addresses correctly?
Are you using a special kind of computer or special kind of motherboard?
Is a printer attached to the same port as the WIBU-BOX?
Does the system correctly recognize the WIBU-BOX/U?
Diagnosis possibilities of the WIBU-KEY driver
Activation of the LPT-Port (Linux)

Are all required driver files installed correctly?
You can test these drivers by opening the WIBU-KEY Control Panel Applet or by using WKU32.EXE in the DOS-Shell. Both programs should detact and list all the WIBU-BOXes attached to the local system. Even if they do not find WIBU-BOXes, both programs should start without any error message.
Under Mac OS X and Linux you can test the drivers by using the WkConfig tool or by using WKU in the shell.

Is the WIBU-BOX attached to the proper port?
A WIBU-BOX/P must be attached to a parallel port and a WIBU-BOX/SP must be attached to a serial port. If there are arrows on the WIBU-BOX case, these must point in the direction of the computer.

Does the computer recognize the ports and their I/O addresses correctly?
The configuration of the ports can be checked in the system control panel .
Check if used port is shown on the contents page in our WIBU-KEY Control Panel.
To change the configuration of the used ports, move to the settings page and check if this port is enabled ( you can also check this with wku32.exe in the DOS-Shell). Also check the port Adresse (disable system standard).

Are you using a special kind of computer or special kind of motherboard?
Some computers and motherboards that are not commonly used do not support the parallel ports with enough power to allow the WIBU-BOX to work properly. This type of problem may occur, if there is only a WIBU-BOX or in addition a printer connected. A further possibility to solve the problem is the use of the delay factors. Another solution would be to consult your sofware developer and purchase a different type of WIBU-BOX for an alternative interface.

Is a printer attached to the same port as the WIBU-BOX?
Is the WIBU-BOX detected if the printer is turned off? Sometimes installed printer drivers cause problems. See the printer support page for more information.

Does the system correctly recognize the WIBU-BOX/U?
Was the WIBU-BOX/U recognized after the first connection to the USB-Interface by displaying the message "New Hardware WIBU-BOX/U" and were the necessary Plug & Play drivers automatically installed?
Make sure that the concerning WIBU-BOX/U is correctly recognized in the device manager
if not, then

- remove all WIBU-BOXes,
- reset the Plug&Play mechanism pressing the "Plug&Play" button on the "installation" page of our WIBU-KEY control panel applet
- restart your computer,
- reconnect the WIBU-BOX to your computer and
- follow the exact instructions provided by the installation assistant. If the assistant is interrupted the WIBU-BOXes cannot be used by the system.

WIBU-KEY driver Diagnosis possibilities
The WIBU-KEY drivers offer a diagnosis mode for a better local detection of the WIBU-BOXes. In doing so, information is recorded which the driver generates when searching for or accessing WIBU-BOXes.
You may activate the diagnosis mode in the WIBU-KEY control panel applet located in the system control panel. After executing WIBU-KEY move to the "Diagnosis" page by selecting the option "Active" and starting the protocol by pressing the button "New". Now move to the "Test" page by pressing the button "Scan ports" in order to rescan all connected WIBU-BOXes. Now press the "Start" button and run 50 tests.
In case of errors go back to page "Diagnosis". The displayed error message can be saved into a file via the button "Save as". This file can be sent to WIBU-SYSTEMS AG.
These tests can also be run via the network, e.g. the WIBU-KEY server can be checked.
Pressing the Report button generates a file including information about the used operating system and the used WIBU-BOX variant. The report file facilitates a quick error analysis. Please, send this file together with the test protocol to our support team. Your inquiry will be responded immediately.

Activation of the LPT-Port (Linux).
After the WIBU-KEY Treiber driver installation under Linux, the access to the LPT-Port is disabled by default.
To enable the access you have to edit the file WIBUKEY.INI (/etc/wibu/WIBU-KEY)in the following way.

..
WkPort=Lpt,Com;USB
..
WkLpt= *, /D, /D
..

May be you has also to edit the permissions for the used LPT-Port (/dev/parport0 -> for LPT1). A normal user has to have "the right" to use (access) the LPT-port.
z.B.: chmod a+rw /dev/parport0
